Education is not yet something that goes without saying for the Maasai communities. The Maasai are traditionally nomadic people. The relocation of their herds is regulated by the seasons. Because of global warming their food sources disappear, and with that their livelihood, which forces them to settle somewhere (semi-) permanently. Because of that the demand for education is only now starting to come about. So looking at their needs we not only want to provide children with the possibility to go to school but also offer education to their parents and teachers. We want to give everybody the chance to develop and improve themselves.
BTI Foundation was founded to support the Maasai communities of Kenya and Tanzania in realizing good education. We want to make education possible for everybody in these communities. Education for children, teachers and for parents of which 97% is now illiterate. In short, education for the entire community. From the first moment on, plans were developed, to realize this education by means of extensive collaboration. Ultimate goal is to make the Maasai communities jointly responsible and in doing so, increase the effectiveness and in the end, their independence.
