BTI means: Starting from the Basics (= culture, knowledge, tradition, questions etc.) of the Maasai Communities we work with a Team (or Teams) of highly involved people at our 4 Initiatives. BTI Foundation stands for much more than just education. Our philosophy is based on four pillars, initiatives if you will. We have divided our core activities into four areas that need attention. That is why the I of Initiatives, in BTI Foundation stands for the following BTI-initiatives: pupils, teachers, parents and materials.
For the Initiative 'Pupils' we focus on: - Schools within a safe distance: sometimes children have to walk more than 4 kilometers to go to school. Better is to have a school nearby the villages. - No overcrowded classrooms: more than 60 pupils in a classroom is far to much! -Special attention for three-year-olds: teachers should be more aware of the needs of three-year-olds. -Learning materials of good quality. -Special attention for the position of girls.
In the Maasai communities there are hardly enough well-educated teachers. Therefor the Initiative 'Teachers' especially focusses on: - Official education of the teachers: BTI Foundation offers teachers to go to Teacher Training College. During school holidays the teachers attend school. - Teachers' salary: BTI Foundation is paying HALF of the salary of all teachers. The other HALF of their salary is payed by the communities. - Maintaining contact with teachers colleges. - Coaching and supervision, - Office and housing, - Computers
Because we think it is important for parents to have the possibility to earn the money they need to pay the tuition for their children, we support them in various projects: a brochure with information for tourists is supported by BTI. We also support so-called women groups to improve their artifacts. Also during the last several months, there are lots of parents, who want to learn how to read and write. So therefor at this moment, an important initiative is: starting classes for adult education.
There is a lot to do when it comes to providing materials. - Schools: Olasiti is in need of a new four-class schoolbuilding. Both schools need new chairs. - Toilets and water tanks: Meshanani has a huge lack of water and it is important to do something about this situation as soon as possible. Olasiti needs a storage tank for clean, safe drinking water for the children. - Materials for the teachers and children: the most important teacher materials are: the school syllabus volume 1&2, preparationbooks, chalks and writing materials. For the children: lots of writing paper, pencils, notebooks and all sorts of reading books!!!!
We need your help to support our projects and people in Kenya.
